Instructions

The double-sided adhesive films – Fall-Safe Apply – are certified non-toxic by 3M, the originator of them, and the silicone adhesive used on the “body-side” is the same as that used on wound dressings. It has been tested on delicate elderly skin.

• To locate the correct position for the pads, stand up, place the fingers of one hand on the centre of the thigh at crotch level. Then gently rotate the leg, moving the hand until it senses the motion of the femur bone. Then place the pad in the location on the thigh. (The pad does not need to be placed exactly as it is designed to cover the top of the femur when placed in approximately the right location.)

• The films should last for 10 days to a fortnight, worn continuously. They can be changed by gently peeling the film off the pad and replacing it with a new set.

• The films are breathable, meaning that air can pass through them, as it can with the pads. This is to ensure that the skin beneath does not become hot or red. The pads can be gently removed for inspection of the skin beneath, if desired, and then stuck back on the thigh.

• The pads and films can be worn in the bath or shower since they do not absorb water. We would recommend that they are kept on in bed at night, perhaps with a thin pair of elasticated pants worn over them.

• If worn by an elderly male, we recommend that the area of skin on the thigh to which they will be stuck is shaved the first time the pads and films are applied (it is not usually necessary thereafter). This is not vital but is more hygienic and comfortable when the pads are first worn. It is appreciated that this may not apply to all users.

Please make sure that the pads are at room temperature before wearing
